Stylist Notes: The Pieces I Buy Again
Four wardrobe workhorses I recommend to clients — and would repurchase myself tomorrow.
September 18, 2026
After twenty years of editing closets, I've learned which pieces earn their keep. These are the four I reach for weekly, recommend constantly, and would replace immediately if they wore out. Here's exactly why — and how I wear each one.

The Colby Pant

I hesitated over the price for a month — and then wore them three times the first week. The drape is the thing: relaxed through the leg but clean at the waist, so they read polished with a cream knit sweater and easy with a simple white tee.
Fit note: true to size, and the crease holds through a full day of sitting. I've already repurchased in black. If you buy one tailored trouser this year, make it this one.
The Cashmere Sweater I Travel With

This is the layer that lives in my carry-on. It's warm without bulk, the camel works over everything, and it dresses up a pair of jeans for dinner without trying.
What surprised me: it hasn't pilled, and I'm not gentle with it. Worth the price — cost per wear is already in single digits.
The Bag I Carry Everywhere

Cognac leather, one good shoulder strap, fits a book and a scarf. The leather tote has softened beautifully — it looks better now than the day I bought it.
If you want one bag that works with denim, tailoring, and a dress, this shape is the answer. I'd buy it again without hesitation.
The Shoes I Wear Constantly

A refined loafer you can actually walk in — airport, museum, dinner. No break-in period, and the sole has held up through two trips.
Pair with the Colby pant for work or straight-leg denim on weekends. This is the shoe I pack when I can only bring one.
How I choose what earns a place
Every piece below has survived at least two full seasons of real wear — travel, work, weekends, and the washing test. I don't recommend anything I wouldn't buy again with my own money.
Fit and fabric come first, always. A beautiful piece that pulls, pills, or pinches after three wears is not a bargain at any price.
